Why You Should Consider Prepping?
Hey Ya'll!
"Happy June!"
This month is Pet Preparedness Month. If you are a Pet Parent they are a great reason you should consider Prepping. Stick around till the end for a few things you can do right now to be prepared for your Pet Babies.
We are half way through 2024! WOW!
This is the start of summer and it is also the start of Hurricane Season in my part of the world.
While there are so many different things you should be prepared for, this is the reason I stepped up my "prepping" game.
In this blog:
We will look at a short list of some reasons you should consider prepping,
I will share a short story on why I stepped up my "prepping" game, and
We will look at where you should begin.
Why Should You Get Prepared?
Grab something to take notes!
Look at the short list below, and write down how many of these situations have you experienced in the past 5 years, or think you might experience soon?
Power Outages
Sudden Illness and Death
Medical Emergencies
Economic Downturn
Inventory Shortages
Inflation
Extreme Bad Weather
Natural Disasters
Financial Hardships
Unemployment
Pandemics
Civil unrest
Now that you have made that list, take a deep breath and ask yourself;
Were you Prepared?
Could you have been better prepared?
We have all experienced several of these over the past year, some are more prepared than others. What could you have done differently to be more prepared and self-sufficient?
Why I Stepped up my Prep Game - Short Story
Where I lived we don't normally get a direct hit from during the Hurricane Season. We will get some wind and rain, that is about it. Well in 2017, we got hit by Hurricane Ida, we lost power for 3 days, trees were down, some streets were not passable, and we could not drink the water. We made it through that one but, it wasn't pretty. That is when I started my Prep game. I thought I did good acquiring the things I felt would make me better prepared. I was still working on getting some additional items, and then Idailia hit us directly as a Cat 2 with Max sustained winds of 105mph, 97% of my city was in the dark. We did not have power or drinkable water for 5 days. Because I started prepping after the 2017 hit, we were better prepared. We did not lose any food, we had plenty of water and alternate ways to cook food. Also because our warm season seems to last forever, we were also able to keep cool.
While I felt better prepared for that second hit, I am still upping my Prep game even more. Not going overboard, but I saw where I could improve.
This season is predicted to be even worst than last year, and I want to be ready!
You might not experience Hurricanes in your area, but there is some natural disaster that keeps you awake at night.
Are you prepared?
What's Next? Where do you start?
So where should you begin this Preparedness/Prepping journey?
What do you do?
What do you buy?
Great questions, but this is a marathon, not a sprint!
We are not going to get overwhelmed during this journey. We will do what we can, when we can, but we have to start Now!
First let's assess our situation and make a plan.
Look at the list you wrote down at the beginning for the potential reasons to Prep, add anything you go through in your area that I did not mention.
For that list which one do you think you might experience in the near future. This is where you should start. If there is nothing on the list that you think you might go through soon, then you can just make a plan to work on that.
I would like to say that if you don't have one thing to focus on from the list right now, I would start with "Illness/Unexpected Death, and Power Outages".
Let's Wrap this up!
While we have looked at several different reasons you should consider Prepping,
I told you a short story on why I upped my Prepping Game, and we even came up with a potential starting point for you.
Over the next few posts, I am going to be chatting about a part of Prepping that most folks don't look at. Prepping covers many different parts of your life, I'm going to be focusing on what I like to call "Document Prepping"
I do understand that everything here may not be for you, however you just might be able to share what you learn here with someone else.
My hope is that you will stop by often and bring a friend!
What's Next? Come back and check us out!
See you soon!
Thanks for stopping by
Ciao
Miss Grace
